Hedgies Overview

Hedgies is a free farming game about hedgehogs. You start on an overgrown patch of forest, clear it, and turn it into a farm with crops, workshops and cottages. It’s slow and friendly on purpose, and you can play it in five-minute visits.

Every job on the farm costs energy, and that’s the thing you run short of. The studio hands some back through gift links on Facebook, and our Hedgies free gifts page keeps those links in one list.

Here are the latest Hedgies gift links, newest first. The rest of this page covers the game, the platforms and what it costs.

Tap a card and the link opens Hedgies with the gift attached. Once you’ve opened one it turns to CLAIMED, so you know where you got to.

    What Hedgies is

You're handed a forest clearing and a hedgehog, and the rest is up to you. Clear the bushes and rocks, lay out beds, and plant apples, carrots, tomatoes, corn and wheat.

What you grow feeds everything else. You cook with it, craft with it, and hand it over to finish quests. The rewards go into cottages, workshops and hundreds of decorations, so the farm ends up looking like yours rather than everyone else's.

It isn't a lonely game either. You can unlock new areas of the forest, visit other players' farms, trade goods with them, and join the seasonal events the studio runs through the year.

    How a session goes

Energy decides how long you can play in one sitting. Chopping, digging, planting and harvesting all draw from it, and when it's empty you wait for it to build back up.

That shapes the game into short visits. You drop in, spend what you've banked, set something cooking, and come back later. The studio's own words for it are relaxing idle gameplay, and that's a fair description.

Worth knowing. The studio doesn't publish the numbers behind the energy bar: how fast it fills, where it caps, or what each job costs. Sites that state those figures are guessing, and the figures move with updates anyway.

    Where you can play it

Windows PCGoogle Play lists the game for Windows through Google Play Games
iPhone and iPadOn the App Store, but running a build from 2024. See below
FacebookThere's a Facebook version too, with its own page and its own gift links

Google Play also tags Hedgies as playable offline, so a patchy signal doesn't stop you farming. The game came out on Google Play in October 2021 and was last updated there this month.

    The iPhone version is behind

The App Store version was last updated in September 2024. The Android version has had an update this month. If you were about to install Hedgies on an iPhone, that gap is the thing to know.

The ratings show it too. Google Play has 4.6 stars from more than 75,000 reviews and over half a million downloads. The App Store listing sits at 3.7 stars from 22 ratings.

Pick Android if you have the choice

Two years of updates have gone into one version and not the other. If you play on an iPhone, expect an older Hedgies than the one people are talking about.

    Who makes Hedgies

You'll see two names on this game, and both are real. Google Play and the App Store both list the publisher as Games Extras, whose legal name is Allustone, Inc., based in Alexandria, Virginia.

RedSpell is the other one. The studio runs the game's Facebook page for phones and tablets, its contact address is a RedSpell one, and the Android package itself carries the RedSpell name. How the two companies are tied together isn't spelled out anywhere official, so that's as far as it goes.

    What it costs

Nothing to download, and you can keep playing without paying. The store description puts it plainly: the game is free, though some items can be bought with real money.

Google Play lists those purchases from $0.99 up to $99.99 each, and the app carries ads.

The data box is worth a look before you install. The developer tells Google Play it collects no data, but also that the app may share your location, financial info and three other kinds of data with other companies. It says data is encrypted while it travels, and that you can't ask for it to be deleted.

    Common questions

    Is Hedgies free to play?

Yes. It's free on Google Play and the App Store, and you can farm away without paying. There are optional purchases from $0.99 to $99.99 on Google Play, and the game shows ads.

    Does Hedgies have promo codes?

No. Neither store listing mentions anywhere to type a code, and the studio's Facebook pages post gift links instead. Our free gifts page keeps those links in one place.

    Can you play Hedgies offline?

Google Play tags the game as playable offline, so you can farm without a signal. Gift links are a different matter, since they run through Facebook and need you online.

What do you do in Hedgies?

You clear a forest clearing, plant crops like apples, carrots and wheat, cook and craft with what you harvest, and finish quests to earn buildings and decorations. You can also visit other farms and trade goods.

    Who made Hedgies?

Both stores list the publisher as Games Extras, whose legal name is Allustone, Inc. of Alexandria, Virginia. RedSpell runs the game's Facebook page for phones and tablets and its name is in the Android package.
