What Domino Dreams is

Take the dominoes you already know and turn them into a solo puzzle. Instead of playing against someone at a table, you work through boards on your own, matching tiles until the board is clear.

Wrapped around that's a building game. SuperPlay describes it as helping King Richard on a royal tour, and your job is to put his realm back together. His peon staff handle the hammering. You supply what they need by winning puzzles.

How the matching works

You match dominoes to take them off the board, and you keep going until the board is empty. Win the board and you collect the payout.

There's more to do than the main levels. SuperPlay lists events that pay out puzzle pieces, a trail to run and a wheel to spin, so there's usually something running besides the next level in the chapter.

Coins and gold stars

Two things come out of a won board. Coins go into what SuperPlay calls your royal treasury, and gold stars are the other half of the payout.

Both feed the same place in the end. You spend what you win on designing and building the kingdom, which is what moves you to the next part of the story. Run low and progress slows down, which is the gap the reward links fill.

This is the part worth reading twice, because the two app stores don't agree, and the gap between them is unusually wide.

SuperPlay settles it in its own listing. The App Store description says in plain words that Domino Dreams is intended for those 18 and older. So treat the Google rating of Everyone as the outlier, not the answer, and go with the developer.

Why the higher rating. Apple flags the game for frequent and intense contests and for loot boxes. That's about the money side rather than anything you see on the board, but it's the reason this sits at 17+ while a lot of puzzle games sit at 4+.

What it costs

Nothing to download and nothing to start playing. SuperPlay says the game doesn't require payment to download and play.

There are things to buy once you're in, and the developer is direct about what they're: you can buy virtual items with real money, and some of them are random items rather than the exact thing you picked. SuperPlay also says the game may show advertising, and points out you can switch off in-app purchases in your device settings. That last part is worth doing before you hand the phone to anyone else.
