Solitaire Farm Adventure Overview

Solitaire Farm Adventure is two games stitched together. One is TriPeaks solitaire, where you clear a board of cards. The other is a farm you build up with what those boards pay you.

Coins and boosters are what the farm and the harder boards both eat, so you notice when they run low. Ghost Studio hands some back through gift links on its Facebook page, and our Farm Adventure free coins page keeps them in one list.

What the game is

You join Jane's family farm, and the people you meet are Bob and a dog called Biscuit, who is the face on the app icon. The farm starts small and grows into a town as you keep going.

Ghost Studio advertises more than 10,000 card levels, with 200 more added every two weeks. The map travels too, and the store listing names American, African, European and Asian landscapes along the way.

It's worth knowing which half is the game. The cards are the work; the farm is what the work is for. If you want solitaire with nothing attached, this isn't that.

How a board works

TriPeaks is easy to pick up. Cards sit in overlapping peaks, and you pull them off onto one pile at the bottom.

1. Check the card you're on. It's the one at the bottom of the screen, and everything you play has to sit next to it in rank.

2. Take one either side of it. On a 9 you can take an 8 or a 10, and whichever you take becomes the card you're on.

3. String them together. Cards taken back to back fill the Streak Meter, and the App Store listing says a full meter pays bonuses and Wild cards.

4. Draw only when you must. Stuck means taking a fresh card from the pile, and the pile runs out. Empty it with cards still up and the board's lost.

Where people go wrong is grabbing the first legal card. Two are often both playable, and the right one's whichever uncovers more. Peaks with cards stacked on top of them are the ones to dig at early.

The obstacle cards

Later boards put things in your way, and the listing names five of them: Locks, Shells, Stones, Bombs and Volcanoes.

Ghost Studio doesn't explain what each one does, so the game's own prompts are the place to read that. What it does tell you is the point of them: they're why a board that looks ordinary can take several goes.

This is also where coins start mattering. A board with obstacles is the kind you finish with a booster rather than a lucky pile.

The farm side

Winning boards pays for the farm, and the farm is the reason to win more boards. It's a straight loop, and it's what separates this from a plain card app.

None of that needs money. It needs you to keep clearing boards, which is the design working as intended.

Playing without a signal

The card game works offline, and the studio says so in its own words: "No Wi-Fi? No Worries!" So a plane or a basement doesn't stop you playing.

What does need a connection is anything involving other people or money, so tournaments, ads, purchases and the Facebook gift links all want you online.

Two TriPeaks games, one studio

Ghost Studio runs this and a second TriPeaks game called Solitaire TriPeaks Journey. They share a studio, a card format and most of a package name, so they get mixed up constantly.

They keep separate accounts, and their gift links carry different app IDs underneath, so a link from one genuinely cannot pay into the other. That's the thing to check when a site lists TriPeaks freebies without naming the game.

What it costs

Nothing to download, and nothing to keep playing. The app shows ads and sells coins and boosters.

There's a subscription as well, listed on the App Store at $5.99 a month after a seven-day trial, $14.99 for three months or $49.99 for a year. It covers extra daily coins, one more life, double rewards, no ads and priority support.

On the ratings, the two stores don't quite agree either. Google Play has it at 4.4 stars from 112,000 reviews, and the App Store at 4.7 from 35,000. Play is the bigger sample by a distance.
