Taonga: The Island Farm Free Energy

You’re halfway through clearing an island, the energy bar hits zero, and that’s the evening over. Every Taonga player knows the feeling.

Volka gives energy back through gift links it posts itself. You click one, the game opens, and the energy is in your account. Each link has a closing date on it, and after that it’s done.

The steadier fix is a building. Fill in your game profile and the Seaside Castle pays you 15 energy and 5 guest actions every 20 hours, for good. Our Taonga guide covers how the islands and the farm fit together.

Today’s Taonga free energy

Each gift shows the date it closes. Once that date passes, the link stops paying out.

How the gift links work

Taonga has no promo code box. There's nowhere to type a code, and no code system behind it, so anyone handing you a string of letters to enter is making it up.

What Volka does instead is post a link. You click it, it opens the game, and the gift lands in your account.

1. Open the gift link. It takes you straight to the game.

2. Log in if it asks. The gift goes to whichever account you're signed into, so check it's the right one.

3. Claim it before the cut-off. Every gift post names a date, and they're always set at 01:00 in the morning Pacific time.

4. Look for it in the game. It arrives in your account rather than landing on your island as something to click.

Where the gifts come from

Three official places, and they're all Volka posting to its own players.

The newsletter is the one people miss, and it's free. You need an email on your account, then it's Menu, My Account, Notifications, and switch on Email Newsletter. It shows up as a pop-up from level 8.

Gifts aren't on a timetable. They turn up for character birthdays, as the answer to one of Volka's picture puzzles, and during festivals. Some are even put to a vote, where you react to pick which reward everyone gets the next day.

The Seaside Castle, and why it matters

This is the best free energy in the game and most players never switch it on. Fill in your game profile and Volka gives you a building called the Seaside Castle.

It pays 15 energy and 5 guest actions every 20 hours, for good, and it costs nothing. Four steps do it.

1. Pick a username. Click your character, type a name, click OK.

2. Choose an avatar. Upload a picture or pick one of the unlockable ones.

3. Add your email. Click the Seaside Castle icon at the top of your quest list, then the eye icon next to Add your email.

4. Confirm it. Open the email from Taonga and click the verify button.

If you've got a Google account you can use the Continue with Google button instead, which links and confirms the address in one go.

Every way to collect energy

Volka publishes the whole list rather than making players guess. It's a long one, and a good few of these cost nothing at all.

• Wellness spots at your neighbors. Hammocks, sunbeds and picnics. This is the big one.

• The Seaside Castle. 15 energy every 20 hours once your profile is filled in.

• Starfish, clams and crabs. Collect them off your beach.

• The Radiant Lotus. Finish that island and it keeps making energy for you.

• The Dragon Seal on the Lagoon. Another one that keeps paying.

• Treasure chests at home. They appear after you fully clear a tree, a rock or a clay mound.

• The wheel of fortune. Energy is one of the prizes, and you can buy more with sand dollars at its kiosk.

• The butterfly mini-game. Energy turns up as a prize there too.

• Daily tasks and quests. The steady drip you get for playing normally.

• Competition tokens. Swap them in the Rewards shop under the Competitions tab.

• Captain Escudo's chest. The reward for the Island of Treacherous Reefs at level 18.

• Suleiman's scarabs. He's on the Island of the Marvelous Oasis, from level 19.

• Florins. From level 16 you can buy energy with them in the shop.

If you'd rather read it in the game, Volka pointed a player to it directly: Settings, then Support, then Items and Currency.

Neighbors are the steady supply

Visiting neighbors is where regular players get most of their energy. You rest at their wellness spots and walk away with energy you didn't have to pay for.

Volka changed how this works, and the change is in your favor. Guest actions now build back up gradually instead of resetting once a day, a full recharge takes 20 hours, and the old limit of five actions per neighbor is gone. So visit every prepared spot your host has.

There's a Show me button, an eye icon under your host's name, that points out where their spots are. Free gifts work on the same 20 hour cycle, and you can only open a neighbor's gift if you've sent them one recently.

The Cornucopia fountain

The fountain is a diamond source rather than an energy one, but it's worth knowing because diamonds buy energy.

You don't buy the fountain itself. You get it by finishing Rangi's quest and treating him to mangoes. After that you pay to recharge it, and Volka says it yields 120, 200 or 340 diamonds a day depending on the charges you buy.

Diamonds appear in it every 20 hours and you've got 24 hours to collect them before they're gone. Keeping a streak going pays extra, with gifts at 5, 12 and 30 collections.

Why a gift link did not work

Staying on the official path

Volka's own community rules say it plainly: posting links to sites that aren't officially connected to Taonga isn't allowed, and you shouldn't give out your personal details in the game.

The terms go further and say your account is yours alone. You can't rent it, sell it or give it away, so anyone offering to buy or boost your farm is putting your account at risk.
