How to redeem a code

Century Games spelled these steps out itself when it brought the code system in, and they aren't where most people look first.

Tap the green three stripes icon at the top right of the screen.
Pick the gift box icon. That's where the code goes.
Type the code exactly. Capital and lower-case letters count as different, so copy it rather than retyping from memory.
Claim it. Each code works once per account, so there's nothing to gain from entering it twice.

Why it changed. Codes replaced gift links, and the studio says the links were causing trouble when people tried to claim rewards. Typing the code in yourself is the supported way now.

Where the codes come from

Three places, and they're all Century Games posting them itself.

Channel	What the studio says it carries
The Facebook fan page	Newest updates, gameplay info, gift codes and contests
The Messenger broadcast channel	Instant news, event announcements, and exclusive gift codes
The studio's own event write-ups	Codes printed in the body of the post announcing an event

The broadcast channel is the one most players miss. It's called FFJ Explorers Update, and the studio's own word for the codes it carries is exclusive.

The other ways to earn energy

Codes aren't the only route, and the studio publishes the full list rather than leaving players to guess.

From friends. Other players can send it to you.
Daily tasks. The steady one you can do every day.
Map tasks. What the game is already asking you to do.
The Props Shop. Worth a look when you're short.
Watching ads. Optional, and it pays.
Milestone events. The bigger payouts sit here.

Between them, the daily tasks and the map tasks are what keep a regular player going. Codes are a top-up on the days they appear.

Why a code did not work

What happened	What it usually means
It says the code is invalid	A capital letter is wrong, or the code has run out of time
It worked for someone else and not you	Each code is good once per account, and yours may have used it
Nothing happened at all	You may not be in the code screen; it sits behind the green menu icon, not the settings cog
An older post's code failed	Codes are only live for a limited time, so start with the newest
You cannot find where to type it	Green three stripes icon at the top right, then the gift box icon

If it still won't take, the studio's support runs through the cog icon and the yellow SUPPORT button inside the game.

Staying on the official path

Century Games posted its own list of real channels, and the reason it gave was so players get valid gift codes and accurate news rather than whatever else is circulating.

Those are the Facebook fan page, the help center, the Messenger broadcast channel, the official player group, and its Instagram. Anything else claiming to hand out Family Farm Journey codes is not the studio.

The short version. A real code is just text you type into the game. Nothing legitimate asks for your Facebook password or a download.

Common questions

Where do I enter a gift code?

Tap the green three stripes icon at the top right, then the gift box icon. It's not under the settings cog, which is where most people look.

How long does a code last?

Century Games says only that each code has a limited time for redemption. It never puts a number on it, so nobody can honestly give you one. Use a code the day you see it.

Can I use the same code twice?

No. The studio says each code can only be claimed once, so it works a single time per account.

Why does it say my code is invalid?

Usually a capital letter in the wrong place, since the studio warns that upper and lower case count as different. The other common reason is that it has expired.

Where else does the studio post codes?

On its Messenger broadcast channel, FFJ Explorers Update, which it says carries exclusive codes, and inside the event write-ups on its own website.

What else gives free energy?

Friends, daily tasks, map tasks, the Props Shop, watching ads and milestone events. That list is the studio's own.
